Do you want to read 10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend?
We’ll folks, I’ve been hard at work, digging through our dusty files and website data, to find the most popular articles that we’ve ever published.
They’re the most read, most shared and most talked about content on our website and they’re guaranteed to completely dominate your weekend!

I feel like I’m five years-old, it’s Christmas Eve and it’s only ‘one more sleep til Santa’.
It’s December, I’m a geek and it’s ‘only thirteen more sleeps until Star Wars’. Why didn’t Cadburys think to make a chocolate calendar?
This is the most popular article to have been published on AtThaMovies. Despite not being an editorial or lengthy entry into 10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend, it’s still a fun read:
“A full-scale 1:1 Millennium Falcon has been built as well as the interiors of the ship for filming,” they explained. “The Falcon is done – inside and out. The sets were built off-site, ready to move when Lucasfilm/Bad Robot were ready to move into Pinewood.”
2. Andrew Garfield Visits Kids At London Charity Dressed As Spider-Man

My 3 year-old son loves Spider-Man. When he gets home from nursery, he always asks if he can watch:
“Spider-Man with his mummy and daddy in the aeroplane.”
This is going to sound rancid, but hear me out: It annoys me that Andrew Garfield had visited sick kids dressed as Spider-Man.
A terrible, hate mail inducing statement, right? Perhaps its the cynic in me, but I feel that it was engineered to market The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
It was clearly a staged event that’s almost a carbon copy of Johnny Depp’s visit to a London primary school. However, there’s one critical difference between them:
- The London primary school was only notified ten minutes prior to Johnny Depp arriving. This meant that the media wasn’t present and their coverage relied on testimonials from pupils and photographs taken by teachers on mobile phones.
- Journalists and photographers were informed that Andrew Garfield was going to visit the London charity.
This isn’t to say that Andrew Garfield is a ‘bad guy’ or that the children will one day feel ‘violated’ in knowing that their illness was exploited to market a film. Quite the opposite.
If the children are like my son, then it would have been a wonderful opportunity to meet their idol and to hang out with the ‘real’ Spider-Man. That’s magical.
Anyway, here’s an excerpt from the article:
“Ahead of the London premiere for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Andrew Garfield visited the London charity, Kids’ City, dressed in his Spider-Man costume. During the visit, Garfield joked around with the children, played basketball and ate pizza while signing autographs.”
3. James Gunn Slams Footage Of Near Fatal Movie Explosion

Accidents happen, particularly on movie sets. Let’s face it, if you’re going to blow shit up, then there’s always a element of risk involved. However, precautions are normally taken by stunt teams as well as the production to ensure that the ‘shit you blow up’ is done in as safe a way as possible.
Enter He Who Dares 2, a film that nearly killed a stunt woman and was reported to have had horrendous working conditions for the cast and crew.
James Gunn had heard about how a stunt woman was nearly killed during a controlled explosion while filming He Who Dares 2. He decided to use Facebook to criticize the film’s producers and after a few hours of us publishing a story about his comments, one of the producers called me at my home. He requested that the story was removed from our website due to ‘copyright infringement’.
Despite the stunt nearly killing someone, the explosion is featured on the film’s poster… Perhaps the old saying: ‘any publicity, is good publicity’ applies to He Who Dares 2?
Here’s an excerpt from the article:
“I really hate this kind of shit. As I’ve said before, it is okay to hire hack writers, actors, directors, makeup artists, and so forth. But it is NOT, under any circumstance, okay to hire hack special effects artists, pyrotechnics, or stunt people. If you’re working on a very low budget film, and you really need this stuff, hire hack visual affects artists to do it for you in post. This is how people are crippled or die.”

Hands down, this is my favorite article that I’ve written for AtThaMovies. It tickles all of my geeky fantasies: movie trivia, conspiracy theories and the possible existence of UFOs. Toss them together and you have a real life Independence Day on your hands!
So if you’re like me, you’ll really enjoy this entry into 10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend:
“This is an actual spacecraft from another world. Piloted by alien intelligence. One sighting from tens of thousands on virtually every continent around the globe. Intelligent life from distant galaxies is now attempting to make open contact with the human race…and tonight, we will show you the evidence.”
5. Star Wars Episode VII: ‘Inexplicably Difficult to Achieve

On December 4th, 2015, I published a movie trailer breakdown of Batman v Superman. In it, I wrote that I hate being negative. Now, I know that it’s a fear mongering rant. I get that. But, some films deserve to be magical. Substandard, is insulting.
Star Wars Episode VII: ‘Inexplicably Difficult to Achieve is my way of saying that it’s almost impossible to recreate a period of cinematic history, that for many us, was incredibly special time in our lives.
While I admit that The Force Awakens looks spectacular, there’s a part of me that thinks that the film will just be… ‘okay’. For me, ‘okay’ isn’t good enough.
It’s interesting to note that yet another article with a strong opinion voices by the author has made it into 10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend.
Here’s an excerpt:
“In a peculiar twist, it is being reported that Michael Arndt did not leaveStar Wars Episode VII due to time constraints, but rather due to the principle characters involved in the story. According to THR, JJ Abrams wants the storyline of Star Wars Episode VII to focus on the characters of the original films. This will act as a final farewell while and as a bridge to the next generation of characters”

Everyone knows about Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and how awesome it is. It’s not a surprize that the film made it into 10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend! And, while this trailer is a terrible, pirate copy that was taken with a mobile phone, it’s more than worth a watch.
Why? Because, you’ll dig the reaction it gets from the audience. Now, if only DVDs and Blu-Rays included audio tracks to feature audience reactions… Nirvana!
“The first trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy has leaked online. While the quality of the pirated trailer isn’t of the highest standard, it does show that the film will be a very different to any of Marvel’s other properties.”

Wow! Star Wars fans love to voice their hate. If you’re looking for an article that will get your blood pumping, then you need to check this out:
“A direct interpretation of Ford’s body language is that he is attempting to hide his emotions while trying to understand what it is that the director is telling him. Ford isn’t willing to change his opinion as he doesn’t understand what it is that is being discussed. As he is nervous, he no longer wishes to continue the conversation. However, the American Figure Four Leg Cross has other psychological associations that I will explore later in this article.”

More importantly, it’s a testament to how popular the Spider-Man is and why fans are so excited about him being inducted into Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

9. Can Rape Be Depicted In Comic-Books?

Adrian Reynolds shook the pillars of Heaven when he wrote: Can Rape Be Depicted In Comic-Books?
It’s a fascinating article that explores the Adrian’s’s opinion, that rape can and should be included in comic-books, but writers and artists often lack the sensitivity needed to cover the subject.
This article deserves to be ranked higher in our 10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend. Here’s an excerpt:
“Can rape be depicted in popular entertainment? Sure, why not? It’s a subject that’s been handled with appropriate sensitivity in soap operas even, let alone quality crime dramas. One of the problems you’re up against in comics – other than writers not thinking stuff through – is that they’re drawn. And a lot of the artists drawing them don’t draw realistic women, but are devotees of ‘good girl art’, with some big name artists found to swipe the poses they show from porn.”

10. Hamill and Fisher Told to Lose Weight For Star Wars Episode VII

Yup… The fourth time that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has made it into our list of 10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend!
We’re on the cusp of Star Wars mania (again) and recently published articles about the film have rehashed a number of old stories.
This week saw two articles written about how Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher had to lose weight prior to principle photography for The Force Awakens starting. Not very exciting, but we published the story in 2013 that includes a bizarre photograph of Hamill rummaging through bins for cigarette ends… Anyway:
“Star Wars Episode VII producers are urging both Mark Hamill (61) and Carrie Fisher (56) to lose weight. Both actors have been provided with nutritionists and fitness trainers to help make them look more in line with how they did thirty years ago. Mark Hamill was recently photographed eating junk-food and rummaging through street bins for cigarette ends.”
The Force Is Strong With This One
10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend has been a fun trip. Yet, its not a completely accurate list:
a)Prior to AtThaMovies, Good Movies Bad Movies existed and had articles that were far more popular than some of those listed above
b) Social media shares and likes from Reddit, Stumbleupon and Pinterest aren’t included in the stats above.
A quick glance at the available data shows that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will melt the face off any box-office mogul who tries to figure out how much money the film has made (some already expect it to exceed what Disney paid Lucas to buy the Star Wars brand). Yet, Spider-Man will be a driving force for Marvel.
Interestingly, The Walt Disney Company is featured in almost all of the articles (be it one of their brands or person involved with one of their films). This is nothing short of astonishing and the company should serve as inspiration to anyone looking to establish a brand of their own.
So, which of the 10 Articles Guaranteed to Rock Your Inner Geek and Completely Own Your Weekend do you like the most?
