Manchester artist, Akse, has revealed his latest work: graffiti art of Tyrion Lannister from the popular television series: Game of Thrones.
The above portrait is entitled: The Gods of Tits and Wine and is located in an unspecified area of Manchester. The French artist, Akse, who is a member of the P19 Crew, also specialises in using spray paint techniques on canvas. However, he was first recognised for his work in 2013 when a number of his graffiti murals of Breaking Bad characters went viral.
Although I really enjoyed the series this is only a one off. Tyrion is definitely my favourite character as he is smart and witty so I thought he deserved a tribute. I won’t be doing any others but Peter Dinklage as Tyrion just stood out for me.
The Gods of Tits and Wine is located in Hulme. However, many of his other works that include portraits of Jack Nicholson, Christopher Walken, Anthony Hopkins, Jimmy Hendrix, Steve Buscemi and James Gandolfini are dotted around the city as part of his Psychopaths Project.
Akse commented on The Gods of Tits and Wine noting:
But it has already spread online and the fans are appreciating the tribute. It has been posted on reddit the day I painted it and been posted by many street art social media communities on Instagram and Facebook.
Akse also expanded on the television series Games of Thrones and how fans feel about Tyrone Lannister:
I only know Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones, but I’m blown away by his character and performance. I definitely intend to watch other movies he’s in… I think he (Tyrion Lannister) already is iconic, at least from what I can see from the feedback on my artwork, the Game of Thrones fans love him.
I doubt it will reach the virality of the Breaking Bad ones, the reason being that the show is not as popular.
All of Aske’s work is done freehand, achieving incredible detail with spraypaints. The artist is often pictured holding a printout as reference in his left hand.
