According to the statistics page on the Minecraft website, the indie developer Mojang, has sold over 13 million copies on PC and in excess of 10 million copies on Xbox 360. When combined with sales on other platforms, the game has sold over 33 million copies worldwide.
Since it’s release in November 2011, the sandbox game has gone from strength to strength, earning the company a multitude of accolades including: Innovation Award, Best Downloadable Game Award, Best Debut Game Award, Seumas McNally Grand Prize, Golden Joystick Award in the category Best Downloadable Game.
It is somewhat unsurprising that Mojang announced at this year’s Gamescon that Minecraft will be coming to Sony’s PS3, PS4 and Vita handheld system. While their exclusive contract with Microsoft has since expired, the game will be coming to the XBox One in the US and Europe.
