Matt Reeves has now been offered the BATMAN director’s chair!

The main question on the minds of DC fans since Ben Affleck stepped down as director of the standalone Batman film has just been answered!
Read the full article on AICN

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. So, we knew that Matt Reeves was WB’s top choice to fill the director’s chair on BATMAN after Ben Affleck departed, but now we know that he’s gone from top-of-the-list to officially offered the gig.
Deadline’s story says they’re in active negotiations with Reeves and things are looking like a lock.
This is great news for WB… if they trust Reeves make the movie. If he’s entering a minefield of studio politics and creative differences then he’s gonna have a rough time.
I’m an optimist at heart the idea of a kickass Matt Reeves directed Batman movie is so choice. He has proven himself such a cinematic filmmaker with Let Me In and the Apes films that my geek imagination sparks at what he’ll do with this character. Not just on a visual level, but on a character level. He’s one of the few filmmakers out there who can handle both with equal talent.
Warners obviously knows Reeves is a great filmmaker. Let’s just hope they know WHY he’s a great filmmaker and let him work his magic for them.
As a fun aside: THR’s Borys Kit tweeted that he also heard Warner Bros considered both Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez for the gig. Now I can’t help but think about the kinds of movies they would have made!

Hey folks, Harry here… I’ve heard via the realm of production artists, that nothing we’ve seen in the Marvel Universe thus far will come close to giving us any level of preparation for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. Realize, that right now – somewhere in this world is a feature length animatic of this film. That some of the greatest production artists we have today have illustrated this upcoming film. And when they talk to their friends, they’re in awe of what they’ve been asked to do. That’s no bullshit. The film that is shooting and that will be here after an eternity of Trump clusterfucks… apparently… we’ll have something truly special. Well MARVEL tweeted out this video – and try not to get excited. You can’t. I can’t. THANOS – as a full character… is coming. I remember Junior High School when I discovered Jim Starlin and Thanos at a Dallas Fantasy Fair… Starlin was a god – the Mad Titan was on every comic geek’s mind. And now we’ll really see him realized. I swear, If I get to see Thanos talking to a robed feminine DEATH… I’m going to just die of bliss. This can’t be here soon enough…

Not everybody likes a simpering love story, some of us like a little extra spice thrown into our romance to get a rise out of us, so to speak. And sometimes a little extra spice still isn’t enough. In fact, add a dollop of horror, blood, passion, and sex, masterfully crafted by a genius filmmaker and you get my most favorite movie and love story of all time: Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
On many a wonderful night, nerding out over cinema with friends, I have argued that Coppola’s Dracula is one of the greatest love stories of all time. Dracula loves so profoundly and with so much passion that ALL other epic love stories pale in comparison. Allow me to explain. The entire story hinges on the fact that God exists, and as the ultimate power in the universe, we must all live by his set rules. It doesn’t matter what you really believe, this is the reality of the Dracula universe, because, at least in the movie, Dracula couldn’t become a vampire, without God or the dogma that follows suit. This is where the love story comes in, because Vlad the Impaler, or Dracula, was at one time a man of great faith and he loved God. He defended Christianity with his life, risking his life and kingdom to fight off heretics from his land. The only thing that eclipsed his love for God, was the love he had for his wife, Elisabeta. Jason Blum, David Gordon Green and Danny McBride to resurrect John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN!!!

And John Carpenter might even score it!
Read the full article on AICN

UPDATE: Danny McBride talked to CinemaBlend this morning and commented on the placement of this Halloween film from him and David Gordon Green. Most importantly he said it’s NOT a remake, but will be a sequel using the first two films as a jumping off point. That doesn’t mean he’ll ignore everything that came after (though they probably should. Stupid runes ruined everything), but that it’ll very much be in the tone of those first two films. This one’s sounding better and better.
Original story below:

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The most bizarre news hit yesterday and it’s something that has stuck in the back of my mind since I first heard it and I’ve decided that Danny McBride and David Gordon Green making a Halloween movie for Jason Blum is just crazy enough it might work.
Comedy and horror have had close ties as storytelling tools since the first person gathered around a cave fire to share a tale. The timing is similar, the point is to go extreme to elicit a laugh or a jump. I imagine with Blumhouse behind this remake McBride and Green aren’t making some kind of Abbott & Costello Meet Michael Myers and we’re getting something that will be really scary.

John Carpenter himself has signed off on the project and even said in a statement he’s considering providing the score as well.
It doesn’t take much for Carpenter to give a thumbs up. I saw him speak at DragonCon a long time ago and he was very blunt

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. Sitting through the high-energy, brightly colored, million-jokes-per-minute THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE, I was reminded of a question that I haven’t had the opportunity to ask myself in recent months: Is it possible to have too much of a good thing? This film certainly tests the limits of just such a consideration by throwing characters, action, music, pop culture references, and more meta superhero jokes at us in rapid-fire mode to the point where it’s bordering on overwhelming. But even more than that, it just made me want to see the film again to figure out what I missed. Most importantly, THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE isn’t afraid to drop in a few lessons about responsibility, family, sacrifice, and letting people into a life that has been lived largely in solitude. More of a parody of superhero films than an actual one, the work comes to us from first-time feature director Chris McKay, a veteran helmer of such animated works as “Moral Orel” and “Robot Chicken,” which may explain his ADD style of filmmaking. If a joke or two don’t land, don’t let the audience linger on it—just move onto the next bit immediately. Will Arnett returns from 2014’s THE LEGO MOVIE to play Batman, the brooding, self-absorbed vigilante hero, and while he’s certainly well known in the superhero community, he’s also a bit too much of a loner to be friends with any of them. I like that, in the spirit of

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. During the course of the first JOHN WICK film (released in 2014), writer Derek Kolstad and first-time director Chad Stahelski (a former stunt man and coordinator) hinted at a vast underworld made up almost entirely of criminals who were hired to assassinate any required to keep the above-ground world running smoothly. With JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2, the creative team blows open the doors to this secret world and allows viewers inside this dark world where Wick (the appropriately understated Keanu Reeves) made his home before settling down and retiring prior to the events in the first film. And boy, do they make it fun again. The entire promise of the JOHN WICK movies is that the fight sequences and stunts we see in the film are all real, without the aid of special effects, and knowing that certainly make a difference while watching it. The impacts hurt so much more and the destruction sends shockwaves through the body. CHAPTER 2 begins not long after the first film ended. Wick is ready to slip back into retirement as soon as he clears up a first loose ends from the first film and complete the revenge for the death of his wife (Bridget Moynahan), whose memory still haunts Wick. Just as he returns home for some much-needed recovery time, Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) arrives at his door ready to cash in a marker owed to him by Wick. Capone is shocked to report that FIFTY SHADES DARKER continues a stupid and loathsome tradition
Read the full article on AICN

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. It’s true what they say: familiarity breeds contempt. And the more I get to know the characters in the FIFTY SHADES film, the more I find them stupid and loathsome. Right off the top, we find Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) at a new job as an assistant and copywriter for a sizable publishing company, and still being pursued by billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), even though the couple has broken up. In BDSM, consent is essential and the first film caught a significant amount of criticism for presenting a problematic S/M relationship without clear boundaries. That said, FIFTY SHADES DARKER attempts to remedy this by having Christian and Ana renegotiate their relationship. Now if she wants to be spanked, it’s because she wants to be spanked. Ana finds acceptable so they start dating again. Both FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and FIFTY SHADES DARKER share a common, major flaw. They are about people who talk a lot about feelings and love and closeness and pain, but we never see any clear-cut examples of any of them. There’s a lot of telling, but almost no showing. They simply go do something naughty in public (a bar, a restaurant, a party), get themselves worked up enough to go home and have mostly vanilla sex (which he’s now okay with), and wake up the next morning to either talk about what direction their relationship needs to go, or they argue. I can’t remember the last time

ARGO Screenwriter Chris Terrio Rewriting The Solo BATMAN Movie??

ARGO Screenwriter Chris Terrio Rewriting The Solo BATMAN Movie??
Read the full article on AICN

I am – Hercules!!
From Forbes:
sources confirm the script originally penned by Affleck and Geoff Johns was rewritten by scribe Chris Terrio (whose Argo screenplay won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, and who did a page-one rewrite on Batman v Superman), but the project will undergo substantial changes and possible/probably another full rewrite.
I don’t endorse “Batman V Superman” (which featured Terrio rewriting “Man of Steel” screenwriter David Goyer”) but I found BVS a marked improvement over MOS, thanks mostly to all the cool Batman stuff in the first half. Are the best Bat-bits attributable to Terrio or Goyer? Given how much I liked Terrio’s “Argo,” I have a guess.
Goyer* was not asked back for the sequel, November’s “Justice League”; Terrio gets sole screenplay credit on that one.
(*Goyer has collaborated on scripts for many superhero projects, starting in 1998 with “Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD” and “Blade.” His subsequent superhero scripts became “Blade II,” “Blade Trinity” (the only comic-book movie Goyer has directed), “Batman Begins,” “Blade: The Series,” “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance” and NBC’s “Constantine.” Goyer also shared “story” credit on “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises.”)
As for Geoff Johns, who has scripted episodes of “Blade: The Series,” “Smallville,” “Arrow” and “The Flash,” his first produced big-screen screenplay will be “Wonder Woman” arriving in cinemas June 2.
Ben Affleck announced Jan. 30 that he had stepped down as director of the solo Batman movie, and Warner Bros. has yet to name a replacement.

The movie has so much heart and laughs and emotion and blood… it’s pretty much the whole package, you guys.
And they’ve made a sequel, the whole team is back and it looks real damn good. If you’ve never seen the original, please try to fix that. You’ll be glad you did! If you have, then enjoy the below trailer and get excited along with me!

Chad Stahelski wants to explore an entire world of Immortals in Highlander

Lionsgate had been attempting to get a reboot of HIGHLANDER off the ground for nearly a decade before JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 director Chad Stahelski agreed to take the helm, and it seems that Stahelski has some ambitious plans for the rebooted franchise, which thankfully don't involve Immortals from outer space. The first sequel to the original HIGHLANDER somewhat famously revealed that the…

Pet Brings Two Crazed Lovebirds Together in this United Kingdom Trailer

United Kingdom based distributor Signature Entertainment is set to release Carles Torrens’ (Apartment 143) Pet. This horrifying thriller pits one very lonely man against the woman of his dreams/nightmares. Centrally starring Dominic Monaghan and Ksenia Solo, the film has already released via Video-on-demand, in the US. It is now slated to show on DVD, in the UK, this March. A UK official release trailer is available now!

The trailer shows Seth (Monaghan) stalking Holly (Solo). He follows her to her work. Then, he ups the ante, by abducting her, in her own home. In a remote locale, Holly becomes unhinged as Seth struggles to deal with her devolving personality. Who is crazier Seth or Holly?

Pet looks to be an exciting psychological thriller. Fans in the UK will be able to pick up this title on March 13th. US fans can likely find Torrens’ latest on their favourite VOD platform. Meanwhile, Canadians, like this film fan, will have to sit out in the cold, until this title is released in…

PACIFIC RIM is a tough one for me, because I love SO MUCH about it (I'm a ten-year-old boy at heart, so giant robots and giant monsters punching each other will always be my jam); however, I felt the film overall fell a bit flat. Too much fighting at night and in the ocean, as well as a lead so boring that if he were a flavored popsicle, he'd be plain.

Copernicus checks out the future Wade Watts in GRASS STAINS

Copernicus checks out the future Wade Watts in GRASS STAINS
Read the full article on AICN

GRASS STAINS sounds more like the title of a Tide commercial than a movie. When I saw it in the Santa Barbara Film Festival guide, I almost passed it by because of that. But the film stars Tye Sheridan, who has been cast as Wade Watts in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Ernie Cline’s READY PLAYER ONE. I’d seen him in the TREE OF LIFE and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, but I wanted to see if he could carry a movie. The answer, I’m happy to report, is a resounding yes. In fact, GRASS STAINS is full of talent and surprises.
Tye plays Conrad, a teenage kid who’s having trouble with his overbearing mother, but is starting to fall in love for the first time with a neighborhood girl who has a crush on him, Grace (Kaitlyn Dever). One day, while Conrad is screwing around with his buddies, they decide to play a prank on the girlfriend’s family. Her older brother gives chase, but ends up getting gravely injured in the process. The kids have to make a fateful decision, one that runs the risk of driving the two teenage lovers apart. Conrad has to struggle with taking responsibility for his actions, and how to react to hurting those he loves.
That all sounds like heady stuff for a coming of age film, and it is. In lesser hands, this could easily have been a bad film doomed never to be seen outside of festivals. But everyone is bringing their A game here, especially

Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut is Mostly Artificial Unintelligence: A Video Game Review

Studio: InXile Entertainment.

Distributor: Deep Silver.

InXile Entertainment brought many of the original creators of the 1988 game Wasteland to Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut. This original 1988 game was a truly entertaining and sometimes an addictive experience, for this gamer. Twenty-seven years on, Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut has only slightly improved over the original. The gaming world has changed substantially since the 1980s! Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut originally dropped on the personal computer in 2014, before making its way to the PS4 in late 2015. On the PS4, you get to use a compass point, on the World Map, to explore an irradiated landscape. Soon, you will be engaged in clunky combat as the game does its best to sabotage you. The story puts you in the role of a hero as part of the Desert Rangers. But, it is all of the subplots and moral choices which bring life to the game’s environment. Very unpolished and too focused on nostalgia, Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut may…

The Best Horror Video Games of All Time

Horror films have held audiences captivated for as long as the medium has been around, as evidenced by silent films such as Nosferatu or The Man Who Laughs. Even before film, horror stories were a staple in cultures from all parts of the world. This in itself has bred a long list of laudable titles that has contributed and helped to propel the genre. Below we’ll take a look at some of the best games to be released in the last few years.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Variety is reporting that British actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge may be joining up with Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Young Han Solo Star Wars Spin-off movie. Waller-Bridge is currently the star of Amazon’s series FLEABAG and has had succes on series like CRASHING and BROADCHURCH. You may have also seen her in The Iron Lady.
Her deal insn’t final yet, but Variety is pretty sure she’ll be playing an entirely CG character (a la Maz Kanata in JJ’s The Force Awakens). Could it be an alien? A droid, perhaps? It could be anything!?!
The flick starring Alden Ehrenreich as Han, Donald Glover as Lando, Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson in unknown roles has already begun shooting, which probably means there’s a cool Millennium Falcon set out there right now that I’m not in, which is kinda bullshit when you get down to it. The trailer for Sophia Coppola’s remake of THE BEGUILED looks intense!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Don Siegel and Clint Eastwood’s most famous collaboration is undoubtedly Dirty Harry, but they did another film that came out that same year where Eastwood played an injured Union soldier cared for a mansion full of southern women. Among cinephiles The Beguiled was always tauted in much the same way The Conversation is when talking about Francis Ford Coppola. “Everybody know The Godfather and it’s great and all, but have you seen The Conversation?”
Sophia Coppola had the unenviable task of remaking that crazy little movie and from the looks of the below trailer she knocked it out of the park.
The film stars Colin Farrell, Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, The Nice Guys’ Angourie Rice and Pete’s Dragon’s Oona Laurence.
Check out the tense and steamy trailer below:

The best compliment I can give this trailer is it does feel like a movie out of time. We don’t get this kind of star-studded sexy/tense kinda flick anymore.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I sadly didn’t get to go play in the snow this year, but from afar it seems like it was a pretty good Sundance. One of the buzzy movies I kept seeing my Twitter feed was this movie called Beach Rats.
Neon ended up picking it up. That’s the new distribution joint started by the Alamo Drafthouse’s Tim League and Tom Quinn. If you think about Drafthouse Film’s weird/awesome taste in film you might get the idea that Beach Rats could be a bit on the insane side, but the comparison I heard the most from critic friends out of Sundance was Moonlight.
The trailer doesn’t shed much light on the film. We only see a young man with model looks posing in front of a mirror and taking selfies. The confidence of his posing doesn’t seem to reach his eyes, though.
The word is good on this one. Looking forward to checking it out. In the meantime, here’s the trailer!
